"7 Things", also known as "7 Things (I Hate About You)", is a song by American pop singer Miley Cyrus, and is the first single from her first solo studio album, Breakout. The song was released in May 2008 and is due for release in the UK 10th November 2008.
Background
"7 Things" was written by Cyrus, Antonina Armato, and Tim James, all of whom co-wrote Cyrus's hit single "See You Again" and a number of songs from Meet Miley Cyrus. Cyrus described the song as "therapy" for her, saying "[it goes] through all the different stages of what's been going on the past couple years." She said the song's lyrics are "Miley going through, like, 900 emotions while I'm trying to write a song." In the song, Cyrus "describes the pain of a recent breakup" by listing seven things that she hates about her ex-boyfriend. She accuses the subject of having feelings for another girl, shown in the line "You love me, you like her". At the end, she alternatively lists seven things she likes about him. Cyrus, in an interview with Ryan Seacrest, said of the song's subject: "I want them to be upset. That was my point." She also said that the song was "about who [...] they want it to be to." Of the Nick Jonas rumors, Cyrus said: "I think a lot of people do think it’s about Nick Jonas, and if they think it is, that’s fine, Nick is someone that was really important in my life, but I don’t hate him. It’s a good song and it’s fun and that's it." Jonas said of the song, "I think it’s funny. Honestly, I’m not insecure, my friends are cool—so it can't be about me"
